Analysis Exercise
The Subtext Rewrite: Take a scene where a character states their feelings or intentions directly (e.g., David's accusations or Sarah's fears) and rewrite it so every line is indirect. Characters should talk about the weather, dinner, or a trivial object while the underlying conflict remains clear. The subtext must be readable but not spoken.
The Silent Horror Set Piece: Write a 2-3 page scene from the script (or a new scene) with no dialogue whatsoever. Convey the entity's presence, the family's fear, and the escalation purely through visual action, sound effects, and silence. Use the security monitor, a door, a shadow, or an object as the focus.
The Character-Specific POV Pass: Take a scene where the family reacts as a unit and rewrite it from the limited POV of one character—Ben, Sarah, or Emma. Filter every detail through their specific vulnerabilities: Ben's sensory memory of the hallway, Sarah's maternal guilt, Emma's grief over Claire. Limit the reader to what that character sees, hears, and fears.
