- The screenplay masterfully uses a non-linear narrative to build suspense and ambiguity effectively. It leverages dream sequences and memories to keep the audience constantly questioning the reality of what's happening. The non-linear narrative creates a sense of disorientation, which enhances the psychological thriller aspect of the story. medium ( Scene 39 Scene 44 Scene 45 Scene 57 )
- The ending is open-ended and ambiguous, leaving the audience to ponder the ultimate nature of Solaris and its impact on Kelvin. This mirrors the philosophical themes of the screenplay, creating a truly thought-provoking experience that sticks with the audience long after the credits roll. medium ( Scene 51 Scene 52 Scene 53 Scene 60 )
- The initial exposition regarding the Solaris mission and the previous crew's experiences could be streamlined for improved pacing. The science fiction elements, while intriguing, might benefit from a more accessible explanation to avoid alienating viewers unfamiliar with the source material. medium ( Scene 4 Scene 5 Scene 6 Scene 7 )
- While the ambiguity is a stylistic choice, some plot points, particularly concerning Rheya's nature and the exact mechanisms of Solaris' influence, might require further clarification to enhance the story's overall coherence. The fragmented memories, and the repeated scenes could be streamlined to improve pacing and flow, and ensure the narrative structure is easier to understand. medium ( Scene 27 Scene 28 Scene 30 Scene 31 )
- The ending, while open-ended and ambiguous, could be slightly more defined, without compromising its artistic merit. Some viewers might find the open ending unsatisfying without proper setup or closure. low ( Scene 51 Scene 52 Scene 53 )

This structural choice is bold and adds greatly to the overall effect, but it could make the script challenging to adapt without careful consideration. high
- The use of recurring imagery, such as the rain-streaked window, the Labrador puppy, and Rheya's hand, adds symbolic depth to the narrative and reinforces the cyclical nature of Kelvin's experiences. This technique helps enhance the emotional resonance of the scenes. medium ( Scene 14 Scene 19 Scene 27 )
- The dreamlike sequences and ambiguous transitions between reality and hallucination create a sense of unease and disorientation that reflects Kelvin's mental state and the enigmatic nature of Solaris. The blurring of the lines between dreams and reality leaves the audience constantly unsure of what is real and what is not. medium ( Scene 37 Scene 43 Scene 50 )
- Underdeveloped Secondary Characters The screenplay focuses heavily on Kelvin and Rheya, leaving the secondary characters (Snow and Sartorius) somewhat underdeveloped. Their motivations and backstories are hinted at, but not fully explored. This limits their potential as compelling antagonists and diminishes the overall richness of the narrative. For instance, we know little about Snow's life before or after his experiences on the Prometheus beyond his apparent fascination with the events of the mission. medium
- Scientific Explanation While the screenplay effectively conveys the unsettling atmosphere and psychological impact of Solaris, the scientific explanations are somewhat vague and lack concrete detail. This could be a drawback for audiences expecting hard science fiction, and might make understanding some of the events more challenging for a general audience. For instance, the nature of Solaris' power and its ability to create human manifestations is not clearly defined. medium

Solaris
Synopsis
In a future where humanity has begun to explore the cosmos, Dr. Chris Kelvin, a psychologist in his 40s, is sent to investigate the mysterious events occurring aboard the space station Prometheus, which orbits the enigmatic planet Solaris. The crew has been experiencing strange phenomena, including the manifestation of their deepest memories and desires. As Kelvin arrives, he learns that one of the crew members, Gibarian, has committed suicide, and the remaining members, Snow and Sartorius, are struggling with their own psychological breakdowns. The atmosphere aboard the station is tense and filled with paranoia, as the crew grapples with the implications of their experiences.
Kelvin soon discovers that Solaris is not just a planet but a sentient entity capable of creating physical representations of the crew's memories. This leads to the unexpected reappearance of Rheya, Kelvin's deceased wife, who had taken her own life years earlier. Rheya's return is both a blessing and a curse for Kelvin, as he is forced to confront the unresolved issues of their past relationship. The emotional turmoil intensifies as Rheya exhibits signs of awareness about her existence as a projection, leading to existential questions about love, memory, and the nature of reality.
As Kelvin navigates his feelings for Rheya, he also faces the skepticism of Snow and Sartorius, who have their own theories about Solaris and its intentions. Sartorius believes that the only solution is to destroy Solaris, while Snow sees the phenomenon as a form of contact with a higher intelligence. The tension escalates when Sartorius attempts to implement a plan to eliminate the manifestations, leading to a confrontation between the crew members.
In a desperate attempt to save Rheya, Kelvin grapples with the moral implications of their situation. He is torn between his love for her and the understanding that she is not truly the woman he once loved, but rather a reflection of his memories. The emotional stakes rise as Rheya's existence becomes increasingly unstable, and Kelvin must make a choice that could lead to her permanent disappearance.
Ultimately, Kelvin's journey is one of self-discovery and acceptance. He learns to confront his past mistakes and the pain of loss, leading to a poignant climax where he must decide whether to let go of Rheya or fight for their love, even if it means facing the unknown. The film concludes with Kelvin returning to Earth, haunted by his experiences but also transformed by them, leaving the audience to ponder the nature of love, memory, and what it means to be human.

Character Snow
Description Snow's sudden shifts between detached observation and intense emotional reactions (especially concerning chocolate and God) lack consistency. His behavior often feels driven by plot needs to reveal information rather than genuine emotional fluctuations.
( Scene 7 Scene 15 Scene 39 ) -
Character Sartorius
Description Sartorius's erratic shifts between arrogant dismissal and desperate urgency feel contrived. His motivations seem to change to serve the plot's immediate needs, making his character less believable.
( Scene 8 Scene 34 Scene 56 ) -
Character Rheya
Description Rheya's extreme fear of being alone and her rapid shifts between emotional states feel inconsistent. Her actions sometimes prioritize plot developments (e.g., self-harm) over believable character reactions.
( Scene 13 Scene 21 Scene 44 )
-
Description The narrative's handling of Rheya's death and resurrection is unclear. The reasons for her ability to return are not consistently explained, and the rules governing her existence shift inconsistently throughout the screenplay.
( Scene 14 Scene 35 ) -
Description The nature of the beings created by Solaris is inconsistent. At times they are described as perfect copies, at others as possessing independent consciousness and decision-making abilities. The film does not fully establish consistent rules for how they function.
( Scene 37 Scene 49 Scene 51 ) -
Description The ending is ambiguous and lacks narrative closure. The return of Rheya to Earth after the destruction of Solaris feels abrupt and unexplained. The screenplay does not resolve the central question of Solaris's nature or its effect on humanity.
( Scene 50 Scene 52 Scene 53 )
-
Description Rheya's ability to instantly heal from severe self-inflicted injuries is not explained. The screenplay needs to provide a clearer mechanism or reason for this.
( Scene 21 ) -
Description Rheya's death by drinking liquid oxygen is both sudden and poorly motivated. The screenplay lacks adequate build-up or explanation for this action.
( Scene 39 ) -
Description Snow's sudden transformation into a copy and his immediate decision to remain on the Prometheus lacks sufficient explanation or motivation. The abruptness disrupts the narrative flow.
( Scene 57 )
-
Description Some dialogue feels overly expositional and lacks natural flow. Characters sometimes explain complex ideas in ways that wouldn't occur in a natural conversation.
( Scene 8 Scene 18 ) -
Description Rheya's repeated and somewhat explicit comments about sex seem out of character and are awkwardly placed in the narrative.
( Scene 30 )
-
Element Rheya's reappearances and deaths
( Scene 14 Scene 20 Scene 27 Scene 39 Scene 41 Scene 43 Scene 55 )
Suggestion Streamline the repeated cycles of Rheya's death and return. Focus on the emotional impact of these events rather than simply repeating the same sequence. The screenplay could condense these repetitions while maintaining thematic resonance. -
Element Kelvin's feverish state and hallucinations
( Scene 50 Scene 51 )
Suggestion Condense the multiple instances of Kelvin's fever dream sequences. The impact would be stronger with a single, powerful depiction rather than the fragmented repetitions.

Emotional Analysis
Emotional Variety
Critique
- The screenplay exhibits a strong emotional foundation, primarily focusing on themes of isolation, longing, and existential dread. However, there are moments where the emotional tone feels repetitive, particularly in scenes that dwell heavily on sadness and introspection, such as scenes 1, 4, and 10.
- Scenes like 12 and 14 provide moments of intimacy and connection, but these are often overshadowed by the surrounding tension and despair. The emotional variety could be enhanced by introducing lighter moments or contrasting emotions in key scenes.
- The emotional landscape could benefit from a broader spectrum of feelings, such as moments of humor or joy, to balance the heavier themes and maintain audience engagement.
Suggestions
- Incorporate moments of levity or humor in scenes that currently feel overwhelmingly somber, such as introducing playful banter between Kelvin and Rheya in scenes 30 and 31 to provide emotional relief.
- Consider adding scenes that explore themes of hope or resilience, particularly after moments of despair, to create a more dynamic emotional experience for the audience.
Emotional Intensity Distribution
Critique
- The emotional intensity distribution is uneven, with peaks of high tension in scenes like 21 and 39, contrasted by prolonged periods of introspection that may lead to emotional fatigue, particularly in scenes 11 and 19.
- Scenes such as 14 and 15, while impactful, could benefit from a more gradual build-up to their emotional climaxes to enhance their overall impact.
- The screenplay sometimes oscillates between high and low emotional intensity too abruptly, which can disrupt the audience's emotional journey.
Suggestions
- Balance the emotional intensity by interspersing lighter or more reflective moments between high-stakes scenes, such as placing a moment of connection between Kelvin and Rheya after a tense confrontation.
- Gradually build emotional intensity in key scenes by layering sub-emotions, allowing the audience to fully engage with the characters' emotional journeys before reaching climactic moments.
Empathy For Characters
Critique
- Empathy for Kelvin and Rheya is strong in many scenes, particularly during moments of vulnerability, such as in scenes 19 and 28. However, there are instances where the emotional connection could be deepened, especially in scenes where characters are more isolated.
- Scenes like 7 and 8, while they present emotional conflict, could benefit from additional backstory or dialogue that enhances the audience's understanding of the characters' motivations and struggles.
- The emotional stakes for secondary characters, such as Snow and Sartorius, are less developed, which can detract from the overall emotional impact of the narrative.
Suggestions
- Introduce flashbacks or dialogue that provide deeper insights into Kelvin's and Rheya's past experiences, particularly in scenes where their emotional struggles are highlighted, to foster greater empathy.
- Develop the emotional arcs of secondary characters by providing them with moments of vulnerability or conflict that allow the audience to connect with their experiences, enhancing the overall emotional depth of the screenplay.
Emotional Impact Of Key Scenes
Critique
- Key scenes, such as 14 and 55, deliver significant emotional impact, but others, like 10 and 22, feel underwhelming in their emotional resonance, lacking the necessary buildup to create a lasting impression.
- The climactic moments in scenes 39 and 56 are powerful, yet the emotional stakes could be heightened by incorporating more visceral reactions from the characters, allowing the audience to feel the weight of their decisions.
- Some pivotal scenes may benefit from a more pronounced emotional punch, as the current execution sometimes leaves the audience wanting more depth in the characters' reactions.
Suggestions
- Enhance the emotional impact of key scenes by restructuring dialogue to include more raw, visceral expressions of emotion, particularly in moments of crisis or revelation.
- Consider adding visual or auditory elements that amplify the emotional stakes in climactic scenes, such as music or sound design that reflects the characters' internal struggles.
Complex Emotional Layers
Critique
- While many scenes effectively convey complex emotions, some, such as 11 and 32, feel one-dimensional, primarily focusing on sadness without exploring the underlying sub-emotions that could enrich the experience.
- Scenes like 19 and 28 present opportunities for deeper emotional exploration, yet they often remain surface-level, missing the chance to delve into the characters' multifaceted feelings.
- The screenplay could benefit from a more nuanced approach to emotional layering, allowing for a richer tapestry of feelings that reflect the complexity of human experience.
Suggestions
- Introduce sub-emotions in scenes that currently feel flat, such as incorporating elements of nostalgia or regret in moments of longing, particularly in scenes 30 and 31.
- Encourage characters to express a wider range of emotions in key scenes, allowing for moments of vulnerability, anger, or hope to coexist with sadness, creating a more dynamic emotional landscape.
Additional Critique
Character Development
Critiques
- The emotional arcs of secondary characters, such as Snow and Sartorius, feel underdeveloped, which can detract from the overall emotional impact of the narrative.
- Scenes that involve these characters often lack depth, making it difficult for the audience to empathize with their struggles or understand their motivations.
- The screenplay could benefit from exploring the backstories and emotional conflicts of these characters to create a more cohesive emotional experience.
Suggestions
- Incorporate flashbacks or dialogue that provide deeper insights into Snow's and Sartorius's past experiences, particularly in scenes where their emotional struggles are highlighted.
- Develop the emotional arcs of these characters by providing them with moments of vulnerability or conflict that allow the audience to connect with their experiences, enhancing the overall emotional depth of the screenplay.
Pacing and Emotional Flow
Critiques
- The pacing of emotional beats can feel uneven, with some scenes dragging on while others rush through critical moments, disrupting the audience's emotional engagement.
- Scenes that require a more gradual buildup of tension or emotional stakes often feel abrupt, leading to a disjointed viewing experience.
- The emotional flow could be improved by ensuring that each scene transitions smoothly into the next, maintaining a consistent emotional rhythm.
Suggestions
- Reassess the pacing of key emotional scenes to ensure that they allow for adequate buildup and resolution, particularly in moments of high tension or emotional revelation.
- Consider implementing transitional scenes that bridge emotional highs and lows, providing the audience with a more cohesive emotional journey throughout the screenplay.

This journey leads him to confront challenging moral dilemmas and the loss of others amidst their struggles. |
| Philosophical Conflict | The overarching philosophical conflict revolves around the nature of reality and identity, as represented by Kelvin's struggle between understanding and accepting Rheya's existence as a projection of his consciousness versus her being an independent entity. This juxtaposes the concepts of perception versus truth. |
Character Development Contribution: The goals and conflicts contribute to Kelvin's development as he transitions from a state of confusion and emotional detachment to one of acceptance and understanding, fostering a deeper emotional connection with both Rheya and his own humanity.
Narrative Structure Contribution: The goals and conflicts serve to construct a narrative that intertwines the thriller elements of space exploration with an intimate study of relationships, allowing for tension-filled story arcs that reflect the emotional stakes and existential themes within the characters' journeys.
Thematic Depth Contribution: The goals and conflicts enhance the thematic depth of the screenplay by exploring profound existential questions surrounding memory, love, identity, and the nature of reality, prompting the audience to reflect on the complexity of human emotion and the implications of technology on consciousness.

Scene Analysis
📊 Understanding Your Percentile Rankings
Your scene scores are compared against professional produced screenplays in our vault (The Matrix, Breaking Bad, etc.). The percentile shows where you rank compared to these films.
Example: A score of 8.5 in Dialogue might be 85th percentile (strong!), while the same 8.5 in Conflict might only be 50th percentile (needs work). The percentile tells you what your raw scores actually mean.
Hover over each axis on the radar chart to see what that category measures and why it matters.
Scenes are rated on many criteria. The goal isn't to try to maximize every number; it's to make you aware of what's happening in your scenes. You might have very good reasons to have character development but not advance the story, or have a scene without conflict. Obviously if your dialogue is really bad, you should probably look into that.

Sequence Analysis
📊 Understanding Your Percentile Rankings
Your sequence scores are compared against professional produced screenplays in our vault (The Matrix, Breaking Bad, etc.). The percentile shows where you rank compared to these films.
Example: A score of 8.5 in Plot Progress might be 85th percentile (strong!), while the same 8.5 in Stakes might only be 50th percentile (needs work). The percentile tells you what your raw scores actually mean.
Hover over each axis on the radar chart to see what that category measures and why it matters.
Sequences are analyzed as Hero Goal Sequences as defined by Eric Edson—structural units where your protagonist pursues a specific goal. These are rated on multiple criteria including momentum, pressure, character development, and narrative cohesion. The goal isn't to maximize every number; it's to make you aware of what's happening in each sequence. You might have very good reasons for a sequence to focus on character leverage rather than plot escalation, or to build emotional impact without heavy conflict. Use these metrics to understand your story's rhythm and identify where adjustments might strengthen your narrative.

- Physical environment: The screenplay depicts a world sharply divided between the sterile, technologically advanced environments of space stations and spaceships (Prometheus, Athena 7, Solaris station, space capsules) and more grounded, though sometimes desolate, locations on Earth (rural roads, a cabin, a modern apartment, a friend's apartment). The contrast is significant, with space settings often feeling cold, isolating, and claustrophobic, while Earth locations offer a sense of familiarity but also reflect the characters' internal turmoil.
- Culture: The culture is primarily defined by the scientific pursuit of space exploration and the resulting ethical dilemmas. There's a focus on scientific inquiry and technological advancement, but also a deep exploration of human relationships and existential questions, especially regarding the nature of consciousness, memory, and identity. The ambiguous nature of Solaris challenges established scientific and religious beliefs.
- Society: The societal structure is hierarchical in the space settings, with clear power dynamics between scientists (Gibarian, Sartorius), researchers, and crew members. On Earth, societal structures are less defined, but relationships—both romantic (Kelvin and Rheya) and professional—play a central role. The interaction between the bureaucratic world (represented by the bureaucrat in the car) and the isolated individual (Kelvin) hints at societal control and alienation.
- Technology: Technology is highly advanced, enabling space travel, sophisticated communication systems (videophones, intercoms), holographic displays, robotic repair units (Automated Taskmasters), and even seemingly impossible technologies like creating human-like beings from memories. This advanced technology, however, doesn't necessarily solve human problems; in fact, it often exacerbates them, highlighting the limitations of technology to address existential anxieties and human conflict.
- Characters influence: The unique environment profoundly impacts the characters. The isolation of space travel contributes to the mental deterioration of the crew, leading to paranoia, hallucinations, and suicidal tendencies. The advanced technology, while allowing for exploration and communication, also creates a sense of vulnerability and unease. The characters' actions are consistently shaped by their environment – their choices are often driven by a need for connection, security, or escape from the oppressive isolation and existential questions posed by the world they inhabit.
- Narrative contribution: The contrasting environments create a compelling narrative tension. The mystery surrounding Solaris drives the plot forward, while the intimate moments between Kelvin and Rheya provide emotional counterpoints to the larger scientific and existential themes. The different settings offer unique opportunities for character development and reveal their inner struggles in various contexts.
- Thematic depth contribution: The world-building significantly contributes to the thematic depth. The juxtaposition of advanced technology with profound emotional fragility explores the limitations of scientific progress in addressing human needs and existential questions. The isolation of space travel mirrors the characters' inner isolation and their struggle with identity and meaning. The enigmatic nature of Solaris serves as a metaphor for the unknowable aspects of existence and the challenges of understanding the human psyche.
| Voice Analysis | |
|---|---|
| Summary: | The writer's voice is introspective, melancholic, and philosophically inclined. It favors atmospheric descriptions over exposition, relying on sparse yet impactful dialogue to convey deep emotional and existential themes. There's a consistent sense of unease and mystery, often built through subtle gestures and visual imagery rather than explicit action. The narrative is character-driven, exploring the psychological toll of isolation and the complexities of human relationships in an extreme, otherworldly setting. |
| Voice Contribution | The writer's voice contributes to the script by creating a haunting and thought-provoking atmosphere. The focus on internal struggles and existential themes adds depth and complexity to the science fiction narrative. The sparse dialogue and atmospheric descriptions enhance the mood of unease and mystery, drawing the audience into the characters' internal worlds. The blend of psychological realism and science fiction elements creates a unique and compelling narrative that explores the human condition within an extraordinary setting. This careful balance contributes to the overall depth and thematic richness of the screenplay. |
| Best Representation Scene | 1 - Silent Struggles |
| Best Scene Explanation | Scene 1 best encapsulates the writer's voice because it immediately establishes the introspective, melancholic tone and thematic concerns of the entire screenplay. The combination of atmospheric description (rain, overcast sky, leafless trees), sparse dialogue (internal monologue/voiceover), and focus on the protagonist's inner turmoil perfectly illustrates the writer's preference for evocative imagery, subtle character development, and exploration of profound emotional themes. It sets the stage for the later, more overtly science fiction elements while remaining grounded in a compellingly human experience. |
Style and Similarities
The screenplay demonstrates a consistent blend of introspective character studies, philosophical themes, and atmospheric storytelling, often within science fiction or surreal settings. There's a strong emphasis on complex narratives, intricate plots, and emotionally resonant moments driven by character motivations and internal conflicts. Nonlinear storytelling and dreamlike sequences are also present in several scenes.
Style Similarities:
| Writer | Explanation |
|---|---|
| Charlie Kaufman | Kaufman's influence is pervasive throughout the screenplay, appearing in 29 out of 60 scene analyses. His signature style of introspective dialogue, exploration of identity and existential themes, surreal elements, and focus on complex character relationships strongly resonates with many of the scenes analyzed. |
| Christopher Nolan | Nolan's style is the second most dominant, appearing in 20 scene analyses. His trademarks of complex narratives, suspenseful atmospheres, philosophical underpinnings in science fiction settings, and focus on morally ambiguous characters are frequently echoed. |
Other Similarities: While Kaufman and Nolan are the most prominent influences, other auteurs like Stanley Kubrick, Denis Villeneuve, and Sofia Coppola also make significant contributions to the overall style. The frequent mention of 'existential themes,' 'complex narratives,' 'atmospheric storytelling,' and 'emotional depth' points towards a screenplay that aims for intellectual stimulation alongside emotional resonance. The variation in the cited authors indicates a rich tapestry of stylistic influences, potentially resulting in a unique and multifaceted narrative experience. However, the heavy reliance on Kaufman and Nolan suggests a potential risk of stylistic homogenization if not carefully managed.
Top Correlations and patterns found in the scenes:
| Pattern | Explanation |
|---|---|
| High Concept, High Overall Grade but Inconsistent Emotional Impact | Many scenes (especially 1, 3, 4, 5, 10, 20, 24, 26, 30, 32, 52, 53, 59) receive high marks for Concept and Overall Grade, indicating strong ideas and execution. However, these same scenes often score lower on Emotional Impact. This suggests that while the ideas are strong, the emotional connection with the audience may need strengthening. Consider exploring ways to heighten the emotional resonance of these scenes, perhaps by focusing on character reactions and internal struggles. |
| Dialogue Quality and Emotional Impact Correlation | There's a noticeable correlation between higher Dialogue scores and higher Emotional Impact scores. Scenes with strong dialogue (14, 34, 35, 37, 38, 39, 43, 45, 56, 57) also tend to resonate emotionally. Conversely, scenes with lower dialogue scores (24, 26, 30, 32, 52, 58, 59) struggle in emotional impact. This underscores the importance of well-crafted dialogue in conveying emotional depth. |
| Mysterious Tone and Emotional Impact | A recurring theme is the use of "Mysterious" tone (present in many scenes). While this tone contributes to the overall atmosphere, it appears that scenes heavily reliant on the mysterious without strong emotional anchors (e.g., many scenes scoring 6-7 for emotional impact while high in concept and tone) may benefit from more explicit emotional development. Balance the mystery with emotional reveals and character responses to maintain audience engagement. |
| Climax and Emotional Peak | Scene 14 shows a significant spike in all scores, particularly in Emotional Impact, Dialogue, and High Stakes. This suggests a well-executed climax. Analyze what elements contributed to this success (e.g., specific plot points, dialogue, character interactions) and consider integrating similar techniques into other pivotal moments. |
| Inconsistent Character Change | While many scenes have high scores in overall quality, there is relatively low scoring in "Character Changes". This suggests the characters' arcs might not be as strongly developed as other aspects of the screenplay. Consider incorporating more substantial character growth and development throughout the narrative, not just concentrating it in pivotal moments. This will give the audience more reasons to care about what happens to them. |
| Late-Story Emotional Vulnerability | Scenes 27 through 49 show a relatively consistent emphasis on emotional tones (Emotional, Intimate, Reflective) with high scores in concept and characters, but lower scores in dialogue. This section of the screenplay focuses on internal character conflict and emotional experiences which may need support from strong, emotionally revealing dialogue to improve emotional impact. |
| Shift in Tone and Conflict in Final Scenes | The final scenes (56-60) exhibit a notable shift towards more overt conflict (Anger, Betrayal, Dramatic) compared to the earlier sections. While this might be intentional to build towards a resolution, it's important to ensure a smooth transition that doesn't feel jarring to the audience. Consider foreshadowing these conflicts earlier in the narrative. |
| Intimate Scenes and Emotional Impact | A number of high scoring intimate scenes still receive low scores on Emotional Impact (e.g., 30, 32, 36). This indicates that while intimacy is established, the emotional core of those scenes might be underdeveloped. Focus on strengthening the emotional stakes and consequences within these intimate moments. |
Writer's Craft Overall Analysis
The screenplay demonstrates a strong foundation in creating atmospheric tension, emotional depth, and thought-provoking themes, particularly through introspective dialogue and evocative descriptions. The writer shows a talent for crafting complex characters and exploring philosophical concepts within a sci-fi setting. However, a recurring theme in the feedback is the need for more nuanced character development and a deeper exploration of conflict through dialogue and action, rather than solely relying on atmosphere and description. There's a significant reliance on internal struggles, which while impactful, needs to be balanced with external conflicts and clearer motivations.

Here are different Tropes found in the screenplay
| Trope | Trope Details | Trope Explanation |
|---|---|---|
| Existential Crisis | Kelvin grapples with the nature of existence and the implications of his relationship with Rheya, who is a manifestation of his memories. | An existential crisis occurs when a character questions the meaning of life, their identity, or their purpose. This trope is prevalent in films like 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,' where characters confront their memories and the essence of their relationships. |
| Unreliable Narrator | Kelvin's perception of reality is distorted by his emotional state and the presence of Rheya, leading to confusion about what is real. | An unreliable narrator is a character whose credibility is compromised, often leading the audience to question the truth of the story. A classic example is 'Fight Club,' where the protagonist's mental state alters the narrative. |
| Love Beyond Death | Kelvin's relationship with the manifestation of Rheya reflects his unresolved feelings for her after her death. | This trope explores the idea that love transcends death, often seen in films like 'The Fault in Our Stars,' where characters continue to feel connected to lost loved ones. |
| Isolation in Space | The setting aboard the Prometheus emphasizes the psychological effects of isolation on Kelvin and the crew. | This trope highlights the mental and emotional toll of being isolated in space, as seen in 'Gravity,' where the characters face both physical and psychological challenges in a vast emptiness. |
| The Damsel in Distress | Rheya's character often finds herself in vulnerable situations, needing Kelvin's protection and reassurance. | This trope involves a female character who is placed in peril and requires rescue, commonly seen in films like 'King Kong.' |
| Mad Scientist | Sartorius embodies the mad scientist trope, conducting experiments without regard for the moral implications. | This trope features a scientist whose experiments lead to dangerous consequences, as seen in 'Frankenstein' where the pursuit of knowledge results in tragedy. |
| Memory Manipulation | The narrative explores the manipulation of memories, particularly through Rheya's existence as a projection of Kelvin's mind. | This trope involves altering or influencing memories, often leading to identity crises, as seen in 'Inception' where characters navigate layers of dreams and memories. |
| The Chosen One | Kelvin is thrust into a situation where he must confront the consequences of his actions and decisions regarding Rheya and Solaris. | This trope features a character who is destined to face a significant challenge, often seen in 'The Matrix' where Neo is the chosen one to save humanity. |
| Philosophical Debate | The characters engage in discussions about the nature of existence, love, and the implications of their experiences with Solaris. | This trope involves characters engaging in deep philosophical discussions, as seen in 'The Matrix' where characters explore the nature of reality and choice. |
| The Haunted Past | Kelvin is haunted by memories of Rheya and their past relationship, affecting his present actions and decisions. | This trope involves characters dealing with unresolved issues from their past, as seen in 'The Great Gatsby' where Gatsby's past love for Daisy drives his actions. |
