Scenes are rated on many criteria. The goal isn't to try to maximize every number; it's to make you aware of what's happening in your scenes. You might have very good reasons to have character development but not advance the story, or have a scene without conflict. Obviously if your dialogue is really bad, you should probably look into that.

Sequences are analyzed as Hero Goal Sequences as defined by Eric Edson—structural units where your protagonist pursues a specific goal. These are rated on multiple criteria including momentum, pressure, character development, and narrative cohesion. The goal isn't to maximize every number; it's to make you aware of what's happening in each sequence. You might have very good reasons for a sequence to focus on character leverage rather than plot escalation, or to build emotional impact without heavy conflict. Use these metrics to understand your story's rhythm and identify where adjustments might strengthen your narrative.
